Aprilia Alitalia Racing rider Max Biaggi wins 2011 WSBK Motorland Aragon in Spain – WSBK news
Aprilia Alitalia Racing Team rider Max Biaggi scored his first victory in the 2011 World Super Bike Championship season at the Motorland Aragon event in Spain.
This was Biaggi’s first victory in a bid to defend his championship.
Biaggi commented after his victory at Aragon, “I am truly happy. This is the first victory with the number 1 on the fairing. I think it could have happened a lot sooner. Unfortunately there was always some circumstance that kept it from us, but we deserve
it and I will enjoy it with my team.”
Biaggi added, “I must thank the team - we worked very hard and between the two races we were also able to change something on the RSV-4 which allowed me to push even harder and to be fast and consistent all the way to the end.”
The Italian rider explained the tough situation during the race. He said that any kind of slight problem can ruin the whole race and affect the race results. He said it was a clear win from the start of the race to the final moment.
In the 2010 WSBK season, Biaggi won the last event of the season. Now with a victory at Aragon, he is delighted to post a win in 2011. His usual race number is 3 but with a no. 1 plate, it was his first win.
Biaggi was delighted with his season’s maiden victory and was grateful to his team. The Italian rider finished the first race at Aragon in second place. It also marked his eighth second-place finish in the ongoing season.
Biaggi led the first race for almost three quarters. In the final moments, Biaggi made a mistake while running wide at the hair pin. Marco Melandri was riding on Biaggi’s tail and he availed the opportunity to win the first session of the day.
With all of his efforts, Biaggi hopped to lead the second race over his compatriot. Following into the race, Biaggi pushed his bike to the limit which caused Melandri to make an error and take a win for himself.
On the other side, race day at Motorland Aragon was rather disappointing for the WSBK championship leader Carlos Checa of Althea Racing. Now Biaggi has reduced the points gap from 72 to 43.
Now the Italian rider aims to deliver some good races and will head to the eighth event in Czech Republic in high spirits.
