Aprilia Alitalia rider Max Biaggi aims to close in on Carlos Checa at Silverstone – WSBK news
Aprilia Alitalia Racing Team rider Max Biaggi is aiming to close the gap between him and World Superbike Championship leader Carlos Checa at the upcoming event at Silverstone.
The ninth event of the 2011 WSBK season will take place in Great Britain on July 31, 2011.
Biaggi said, “Our current situation is certainly positive. The last two victories demonstrate that. I am coming to Silverstone properly charged up for good results, but also well aware that I'll have to give 100 per cent.”
The Italian rider is aiming to continue his impressive performance that he displayed in last two events held at Motorland Aragon and Brno. Biaggi is keen to start the race weekend keeping mind that the local riders will also be a task to beat. At present,
almost six British riders participate in the WSBK championship.
One of the British riders is his teammate at the Aprilia Alitalia Racing Team, Leon Camier. Although he is currently at sixth place in the championship but Silverstone being his home event will be a big boost for him and his compatriots.
Biaggi added, “We'll have to reckon with highly ranked direct rivals, just like in the last two races, but also with the English riders who are always particularly motivated on their home track. Tyres and weather, as always, will be fundamental elements.”
Biaggi has spent initial six events with no wins but continuously finishing on the podium, overall 13, has kept him close in the fight for the season title.
In the last two events, Spain and Czech, he won a race which helped him to shorten the 72-point gap to 30 points. He won second races in the last two rounds by holding off Marco Melandri.
The optimism of Biaggi has been developed from his improved racing form in the last couple of events and hope to reproduce that at the Silverstone circuit. Still he is cautious from British riders as they held him off from scoring a podium position in the
2010 season.
