Aprilla Yuswandari makes it to pre quarter-finals of Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012
Women’s Singles expert Aprilla Yuswandari of Indonesia trod into pre quarter-finals of Malaysia Open GP Gold after stamping Kwan Yi Mong in her opening match on May 2, 2012.
World Number 42 shuttler utilised her experience and brilliance in the game and won first round match despite losing the opening set of the tussle.
Aprilla put an impeccable effort to register favourable margin of 21-14, 9-21 and 11-21 after an exhausting exercise of 43 minutes.
Meanwhile, the Singaporean girl also earned a great round of applause for her gruelling effort throughout the tussle.
Yi Mong dazzled her higher ranked opponent with a lustrous performance in the opening game. She was at lower end in the start but she stood to her full stature and bagged the first match point.
In first half of the set, the Indonesian girl established a respectable advantage but she could not go with the same flow after 11-9 score on the board.
The inexperienced but talented female campaigner Yi Mong picked up the pace and pocketed five consecutive points. She maintained that momentum and finished the first set with a significant margin of 21-14.
However, Aprilla Yuswandari turned the tables in the following set as she completely outclassed her rival in all areas of the game. She kept her opponent on the back foot with a powerful counter-attack coupled with true determination.
Aprilla, who also is ranked four in this tournament, launched a brisk attack and gained a notable lead with 8-1 total. She managed to stay ahead of her challenger until half time.
After the interval, the Indonesian girl accelerated her pace and left her rival far behind on the scoreboard. She fetched 10 out of final 12 points and took the match into the third set by placing 21-9 score in the second set.
The decider was not that interesting as it was expected. The Singaporean girl got pale in front of Aprilla and walked away with low shoulders after reading concluding margin of 21-11.
This first round win pit her against Ngan Yi Cheung in second round and if she continues her successful run then she will be in top eight shuttlers of the event.
