Aprilla Yuswandari outshines Desi Hera to secure quarter-finals spot of 2012 Vietnam Open
Women’s Singles campaigner Aprilla Yuswandari of Indonesia stayed invincible in pre quarter-finals of Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open GP and ensured her presence in the top eight shuttlers of the event on August 23, 2012.
World Number 41 shuttler, who holds eighth spot in tournament ranking, intercepted compatriot player Desi Hera to gain access to the quarter-finals of this Grand Prix tournament.
However, it was not a smooth ride to victory as she had to sweat hard for one hour to read favourable result of 16-21, 21-11 and 21-18.
Now she will be up against top seeded Thai campaigner Porntip Buranaprasertsuk in the round of eight and a win will take her into the semi-finals of the event.
Earlier in pre quarter-finals, Aprilla had to face strong resistance from Desi Hera who mounted pressure by clinching the very first match point.
The underrated Desi proved her mettle by putting a crushing performance in the opening game. She started the ball rolling straight away in the beginning when she dominated in a few nonstop rallies.
This early advantage helped her to keep the higher ranked rival under pressure throughout this segment of the battle. She made the best out of this situation and registered an overwhelming figure of 21-16.
However, her supremacy was short lived as the opposing shuttler stormed back with a strong reply and tip the scale in her favour.
Aprilla Yuswandari brought the contest to the right balance by claiming second set with an impressive knock.
She dominated overall pace of the rallies and kept her competitor at the lower end all the way to game point situation.
She finished the first half as leading contender with a figure of 11 on the points table and then capitalised this advantage to win this crucial part of the battle with a 21-11 margin.
The decider was expected to be a nerve racking tussle as both shuttlers were standing on the same level in the match score position.
They made every effort to oust the opponent in the third set but neither could make the difference until the final moments.
Finally, this competitive tussle ended when the talented Indonesian player Aprilla unseated her compatriot shuttler Desi Hera with 21-18 total.
