Aprilla Yuswandari tames Li Lian Yang in Women’s Singles pre quarter-finals – Korea Open Update
Indonesia’s spirited campaigner Aprilla Yuswandari continued playing impeccable badminton in Korea Grand Prix Gold and earned a spot in the quarter-final round on December 6, 2012.
World Number 36 shuttler, who holds second spot in this tournament ranking, thrashed Li Lian Yang in this second round match.
Aprilla sealed a straight-set victory with an impressive result of 21-14 and 21-14. This splendid win setup her next clash with Chi Ya Cheng of Chinese Taipei and critics are giving her better odds for the following contest.
In the pre quarter-final stage, she played with an authoritative approach and kept her opponent at the lower end.
The Indonesian badminton queen looked in prime touch as she did not give Lian Yang even a single counterattack opportunity and cast her out with a staggering knock.
Aprilla started the beating straight away in the beginning of first set and established a comfortable lead.
She did not squander her effort in next couple of rallies and doubled the trouble for Malaysian shuttler who was trailing behind on the points table.
At this stage, Lian Yang strived hard to narrow the gap but she could not hit the mark until mid-game break.
Meanwhile, Aprilla gathered some pace and left her competitor far behind with a significant margin of 11.
She did not break this rhythm and added some valuable points in her total immediately after the interval.
In the final stage, she widened the gap with some uninterrupted rallies and placed an overwhelming figure of 21-14.
The second set was just a replay of previous one as both shuttlers were poles apart in terms of performance.
Lian Yang was expected to display some elevated craft to avoid a straight-set defeat but she disappointed her supporters.
Her fluctuated performance allowed Aprilla to wrap this showdown in just two games and the Indonesian player did not fritter away this opportunity.
At first, she pushed her challenger on the back foot with some power packed rallies and then made a giant leap to a favourable score position.
Aprilla continued with her top form and locked the honour by putting 21-14 margin on the board.
