Aqeel Khan defeats brother Jalil Khan in the final of Federal Cup – Tennis News
Islamabad Club featured the final of Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championship on Sunday, October 9th between Aqeel Khan and Jalil Khan. Aqeel breezed past Jalil in an hour and twenty-four minutes with a score
of 6-4, 6-1.
Brothers off court were old fangled rivals on court. Jalil Khan kicked-off the match in fascinating manner overpowering Aqeel in every department who looked a bit rusty and out of form. Younger brother, Jalil, looked set to pull
up an upset as he pushed the score of the first set to 3-1 and was at 40-0 in the sixth game. Aqeel made a remarkable comeback by breaking his brother’s serve and then leveling the score to 4 games apiece. Crowd was on their feet and no one could accept the
fact that Aqeel has leveled the set. Aqeel continued his prolific comeback and won the first set 6-4 that left his younger brother in despair and disbelief.
Trailing one set down, Jalil couldn’t recover and was outplayed in all departments. Elder brother had no intentions whatsoever to allow Jalil to make any sort of impact in the game. Jalil failed to hold on to his serves while Aqeel
flew with first four games of the second set making it really hard for his younger brother to bounce back in the game. The score cruised to 5-0 and Jalil had lost all hope to recover from that disastrous position. Finally Aqeel had a mere lapse of concentration
which helped Jalil to break the duck but Aqeel quickly pounced back to clinch the last game of the match and sealing the tournament with an impressive all-round performance.
Abbas Hussain Malik, Deputy Inspector General Motorway Police, was the chief guest of the match whilst there were several other famous personalities that included Former Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President, Syed Dilawar
