Aquarium fish capicity?

i am planning the future for my 60 liter aquarium and have used the rule that there can be 2 inches of fish per gallon in a tropical tank.

so seeing as i have 13 gallons of space will this fish quantity be ok?:

2 dwarf gouramis - 2 gallons max

4 platys - 5 gallons max

5 neno tetras - 5 gallons max

2 panda corydora - 2 gallons

so that totals 14 gallons which is just a bit over, is that ok?

oh and if it makes a dif, i have three plants, medimum in size.

thanks! ;D

    p.s

does not make a lot of diffrence with plants!!

  2. That seems a lot of fish for a small aquarium, I have one twice that size and it is small by most standards, I have 8 fish at the moment I may put 2  more but most possibly not, as for the plants my aquarium shop tells me not to put more than a couple as the fish may eat them and it also crowds the place for the fish even if it does look good, ans remember fish eat and sh*t and the more fish the more to clean at the end of the day.

  3. That's a bit crowded, the rule of thumb is only one inch per gallon, not two, and even then the rule only works sometimes.

All or most of those fish will stay around the middle of the tank, there's no separation of bottom dwellers, midtank dwellers and surface dwellers.  Also you don't say exact sizes plants or other things in the tank which take up space, also remember that if you have an inch of gravel that takes up some of the water - one inch of gravel in the bottom of a 2ft by 1ft tank is 1.2 gallons of water your fish can't swim in.

I'd keep it down to about 10 fish, and get fish that will are bottom dwellers as well as surface and midtank fish.

  4. Hello again :0)

60 litres is 12 UK gallon, so we are on track if you are in the US.

The inch per fish rule is rubbish, 10 Neon Tetra can live quite happily on their own in a 12 gallon tank, but it isn't big enough for one 12" Oscar. It would need to be at least 40 UK gallon for that one fish.

Ideally you want three Panda Cory at the very least, add your dwarf gourami. But to complicate matters both Gourami and Cory breathe air, you can suffocate gourami by denying access to the surface.

Unless you get 4 male platties, they will breed. If you get 4 females one will change s*x.

Neon Tetra take up very little room as they only have a small body mass.

Now to further complicate matters :0) and the other posters didn't know this, you are using a Stingray filter which is not the best filter in terms of cleaning the water so you would struggle to keep a full tank.

Plants do help, but they don't make a fantastic difference; they make your fish feel more secure rather than anything else.

I would consider skipping the platties and replacing with another small species of tetra maybe even glo lights, because of the filter and going with 3 panda.

Entirely up to you though :0)

Edit: It's 5 litres to a UK gallon. Platties are live bearers, out of the twenty or so babies she drops, the odds are some will reach adulthood.

It's good that the shop keeper is making you wait, but the toughest fish in your selection are the catfish.

Root mean @ 2"/ fish http://www.fishlore.com/Profiles-Platy.h... you are very cramped with the additional dwarf gourami.

Not be long before you are thinking about a bigger tank :0)
