  1. I think mondo grass looks much better than hair grass. I have mondo in my livebearing tank and it sways with the current of my filter leaving the perfect hiding spot for the fry.

The orange platy's look nice with mondo grass and the guppies too but only the males.

I clean my tank every 2 weeks and every 4 weeks i will unroot the mondo grass and gravel vacum.

Because mondo grass can be submerged and emerged in water i got mine from my front yard. All it needs is a thurough wash in the roots and its ready to go.

    Hope i Helped

  2. Please do NOT use Mondo Grass-- while it may survive (note, SURVIVE) for a while underwater, it will suffocate, as it is a MARGINAL pond plant, not capable of growing underwater.  As it dies, it will release massive amounts of ammonia into the tank, which can very quickly kill fish.

Hair Grass would actually survive, but without fairly strong lighting, and probably some CO2 injection, it will not do well...  Also, it needs a very fine substrate to root and grow.  It comes in pots because that is an easier measure of how much you're buying-- without pots, there is no standard for pricing.  Something like Chain Sword ( http://www.heems.nl/tip/050801.jpg )or Dwarf Sag ( http://www.myfishtank.net/reviews/data/2... ) would be FAR more manageable and would do well.

  3. personally i use the dwarf mondo grass that is submersible and easy to maintain

the clumps of mondo grass can be moved around planted, replanted, etc, without any growth disturbance and if my substrate were very fine, that would be the logical solution

with regular gravel, rocks, etc, and no fine substrate i also use 'Maiden's Hair Plant' and can vacuum around it easily without loss of valuable substrate (or the clouds)
