hi my 25watt aquarium heater

wont heat my tank to the constant set temperature of 26c instead it varies between 26c and 20c

will turning my airpump on at night to help circulate heat help

i usually just have it on in the day as it gets noisy at night

i also run a filter 24/7

and both the filter and air pump are directed towards the heater

any other heating tips appreciated

  1. How large is the tank? 25w is only really suitable for tanks under 4-5 gallons. If your tank is larger around 5-10 gallons you'd need a 50w heater. A 25w would strain in larger tanks.


  2. Sounds like it's a dead heater and the tank is following your room temperature.

    A 25w heater is only good for about 5gal, if your tank is bigger, get 'more power'. (ala Tim Taylor)

    It's normal for a tank to vary a couple of  degrees between day and night, but that amount is a problem.

  3. get a new heater that uses fareinheit and set the temp at about 75F

  4. Do you have the right size heater for your tank is more important than the watts of the heater.

    You should put the heater and the temp. gauge at opposite ends of the tank to get an accurate reading.
