Aquarium salt????????

i have 3 guppys and a yoyo loach and the person at the pet store told me to use aquarium salt to make them less stressed. and i read the instructions and it says how much to put in there per gallon ans stuff but it doesnt say how often i should! do i put it in everyday,every week or every time i clean the aquarium? 10 points best answer.

Well, do not use it when adding water to the aquarium b/c it evaporates, but add more to the water you are changing. The salt never leaves the water. Also, yoyo loaches are schooling fish so you might want to get a few more of them.

First off aquarium salt is just something else for you to buy.

You have a loach and there fore he should have told you NO SALT.

Fish don't need salt in a fresh water aquarium.  The minerals in the tap water you have is fine.

If you insist on adding salt to your tank (which will affect your loach) When you do your weekly water change.  You dissolve the salt (only enought for the water you are replacing) to the water then the water to the tank.

Salt is accumulative so only do this once per month if you feel you must.

Also, salt does not reduce stress in fish.  It increases the slime coat due to salt is an irritant.  Adding salt also can cause bloat in some fish.

The only real thing you ever need to add to the water or your tank (other than meds when needed) is a dechlor/water conditioner.  Also remember these are sodium based as well.

No, you only put it in once or everytime you change the water.The salt doesnt evaporate so it your water evaportaes the salt does not. Watch out though, after a while it might turn your aqauirum green. I had salt in my aqurium and the qwater would turn green after a while then i stopped adding aquarium salt and it hasnt turned green.

Do research of the effects of the salt with your Yo Yo Loach, i have CLown Loaches and Kuhli Loaches, both are scaless critters and have very sensitive skin and will react to medications and salt, if I need to use salt or medicines, I use half the dose that is required. Use salt as a stress reliever every time you clean or add fish...like I said though research your Yo Yo loach...

As much as you like really. I personally use it when treating a fish disease or moving the fish in a new tank. It's good for your fish. If you're not sure, add it every other day and with each new water change.
