Italian International, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-Aquilani-c4313 has accused Liverpool of impeding his move to Serie A in the past, by demanding heavy transfer fee for him.
The former Reds midfielder completed his switch to the Italian side, Fiorentina last week, following a disappointing three-year spell at Anfield.
Since his arrival at Merseyside in August 2009, he was only able to cap 28 appearances for Liverpool, and spent two seasons on loan at AC Milan and Juventus respectively.
Aquilani was highly rated by the former Reds boss, Rafa Benitez, who is believed to have orchestrated his transfer then. However, following the Spaniard’s ouster from the management, the 28-year old remained a victim of neglect under Kenny Dalglish.
The player has witnessed a sporadic career, which has seen him play for six different teams so far.
Nevertheless, after having penned a permanent deal with the Italian outfit, the midfielder hit out at his former club for placing hurdles in the way of his move to the Serie A in the past.
He accused Liverpool of demanding unreasonably high transfer fee for him from Juventus and AC Milan, and cited it as the main reason behind the failure of the move to transpire.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I appreciate their honesty. They explained to me that it was due to economic issues, and they preferred not to spend that money. Even the year before, I had a very high asking price; one that Juventus chose not to exercise.
The market has changed and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 always asked too much money for me.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 player spent the last season at the San Siro with AC Milan, where he went on to make 25 appearances for the Italian giants.
When asked if he fancied a return to Liverpool during his time with Milan, he responded by saying that he was deeply hurt by the attitude of his former employers towards him, and would have preferred a stay in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926.
“Did I feel unwanted? I think you all know how things went for me. I would have stayed at Milan if I had played 25 games. After my 22nd appearance, I was told that I would not play any more games,” he added.
