The Italian International joined the Reds from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 in August 2009, after penning a five-year contract with the Merseyside club. However, he was loaned out to Juventus for one year during the summer window next year, due to early fitness struggles at Anfield.
Even though he returned to Liverpool in July 2011 after completing his spell at Juventus, he was then sent packing back to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 for another year, this time to serve AC Milan.
With some reports suggesting that both Milan and Juventus are not interested in signing the midfielder for another spell, the player’s agent, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Franco-c14050 Zavaglia divulged that Aquilani might spend the next season at Anfield and that he was holding talks with
the club’s representatives over the player’s future.
While talking to reporters, he said: “The new manager [Brendan Rodgers] will decide whether to keep him or not. I don't think he's coming back to Italy and he hasn't expressed any particular preference, but this time I hope Liverpool can tell us in time
if he's not part of their plans so we can find him the right club.”
However, his representative indicated that currently, his client remains a Liverpool employee and will feature in their pre-season practice sessions.
The 27-year old has made 28 appearances for Liverpool in total. At the time of his arrival at Anfield, he was tipped to fill in the shoes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Xabi-Alonso-c37045, who parted ways with the Merseyside club to join Real Madrid. However, an ankle injury early on in his
stay with the Reds kept him from making any notable impact and he has ever since struggled to establish his career at any single club.
Nevertheless, Zavaglia mentioned that apart from a slight ankle sprain, the Italian footballer has no major fitness concerns at the moment, and has still got a lot to offer to any outfit who are willing to sign him.
He added, “Recently, apart from a slight ankle sprain, Aquilani has had no major fitness problems. The real problems were when he had ankle surgery at Liverpool.”
