  1. AR-15: Civilian semi-auto M4

M4A1: A military, burst capable battle rifle.

Now, the only "real" compact rifle you can get is a SBR (Short Barreled Rifle)

  2. I build match AR Rifles.

Most people own a high quality lower - Rock River, Bushmaster, DPMS, etc and have a carbine or M4 contour carbine upper for general informal plinking - and - a nice 20' upper for NRA Highpower Rifle Competition or longer barrel model for long range varmint shooting.

My advice - buy a really nice match target model with a 20" or 24" Varmint barrel where the upper and lower receiver have been mated at the factory.  Then throw any old carbine upper on it for plinking later on.  If you buy the plinking model rifle first and then put a nice upper - highly doubtful it will shot as good as a factory match rifle.  You will be hosed.

    Hope this helps

  3. The AR has the old military look and the M4 has the newer (1997 to present) military look. The insides are the same. Only a few external features are different.

  4. Depends on the mission. AR-15/M-16 for accuracy out to 500 yards for rural (open terrain) battelfield combat. M-4 for accuracy out to 300 yards in urban, heavily wooded or jungle combat environments.

  5. i went with a 20 inch rifle. longer sight radius for more precise shooting., and you get more velocity from the longer barrel. i also don't plan on clearing rooms any time soon.

  6. When I was in the ARMY from 99 to 02,I always liked the M-16 (AR-15) better than the M4 because it was more accurate. The M-4 was nice because it was so small,it had a 14.5' barrel and a collapsible stock. And the M-16 had a 20' barrel and a standard stock. But it could out shoot the M-4.
