It's very sad that today we are loosing heaps of our old cultural values and arts which are a colorful mix of animism, hindu-buddhist and Islamic mystic influence. But it's so sad today there are malays who want to become "arab wanabes" and there are malays who are "modernised and americanised".

So what can we do to preserve our culture ? I want to be honest, i reckon The baba and Nyonyas are more "Malay" than the original those modern class or those arab wanabe malays . DO you reckon ??

  1. no comments ! after kena belasah !

  2. First of all, are you a Malay and a Muslim?

Arabianization isn't actually happening in Malaysia. It's Islam.

We all know almost all Malays are Muslims, and Islam came to this country from the Arabs. In Islam, Prophet Muhammad is the role model. And he of course was an Arab, wore Arab clothes and speak Arabic. What Malays are doing is following the Prophet and it's never a bad thing.

Besides, we still wear our own traditional clothes most of the time. For example on Hari Raya and in any celebration or party. Even during the Friday prayer, there are much much more people who wear Baju Melayu instead of the Arab's jubah. Then we have dodol, serunding, and other Malay food. We also speak Malay most of the time.

Well, what can I say, Malay and Islam has been together for a very very long time that the religion is already part of our culture. It affects our culture positively - no slavery, no kings with unlimited power, no sihir, no chicken fighting, etc.

But Westernization is obviously happening. I believe it's because of the TV and internet, where we only see those white people with their white life and white style. To be honest, Westerners are not good examples because we all know how low are their morals (most of them). High suicide rate, high teenage pregnancy rate, p**n, drugs, weeds, free s*x, alcohol, bad words used widely.

Remember, Islam is the way of life. On the Day of Judgement no one cares if you're a Malay, Chinese, Indian, French, African or whatever. In the end we are all human beings. So take what's good and throw what's bad. But always be ourselves :)

  3. hmm..agree with you..some Malays nowadays are less like a malay..they are all to americanise, arabianise and others.. So we as a malay should stick to our culture strongly, yet as long as the culture doesn't against Islam.. example, Mandi Safar, lenggang perut and some other mysterious adat. For me.. i,m still play the Rebana Perak, Silat and marhaban.. you will be "UnMalay" if you don't practise the malay culture..so my advise do get one...

  4. Hitler really believed that Aryans are superior beings and others should be destroyed.

Neither he survived nor his ideology.

Religions are beautiful, as long as they teach peace and compassion to human kind as a whole and not just to his followers.

History would tell, alll extremist ideologies including communism won't survive

  5. I don't know what Malay-ness is there to preserve because as far as I remember it has always been as it is now.

But if the youtube video is the one I watched a few months back, about Arab people flowing into Malaysia with extreme values - all covered with burqha and all that - and dominating some streets - well all I could say again that's an result of the fanatic government's policy. Promoting arab-nisation in order that the people of Malaysia can stay divided. You heard me right.
