Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 coach, Luis Aragones, insists that Real Madrid can still win La Liga this year despite their bad start to the season.
The defending champions, Real Madrid, took a slow start to the season and did not capitalize on their chance of winning all three points from their arch-rivals, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, when they met last week at Camp Nou.
Despite being eight points behind the Catalans, it seems that all hope is not lost yet.
It is the former Spain coach, Luis Aragones, who believes that Real have got what it takes to close the gap and successfully defend their La Liga title.
"There are a lot of games for Real Madrid to recover the points they need and for a team like Madrid nothing is lost," Aragones told
O Jogo.
On the other hand, city rivals, Atletico Madrid, are flying high at the moment. They are so far unbeaten in La Liga and have won six of their seven matches in the league which puts them level on points with Barcelona at the top of the table.
Another plus point for Atletico is that their Colombian hitman, Falcao, is in sensational form as he cannot stop scoring goals so far this season. He is currently the leading goal-scorer in La Liga with eight goals.
That is why their former player and coach, Luis Aragones, also strongly feels that Atletico Madrid have what it takes to disrupt the established order that has existed in the Spanish league and that they can mount a serious challenge for the title if they
can continue their impressive start to the season.
"Atletico is stronger than in previous years," he added. "They can have a good season and be closer to their rivals, or even fight for the title if they can maintain this consistency."
Finally, when Luis Aragones was asked about whether he has retired from coaching or if he is still considering further adventures in managing teams, Aragones, hinted that he is still “fit enough to return as a manager.”
Aragones has not managed any side since his departure from the Turkish side, Fenerbahce, in 2009.
