Aragorn Icon and Kalacan joint favourites for Dandelion Bar Apprentice Handicap

Aragorn Icon and Kalacan will be joint favourites for Dandelion Bar Apprentice Handicap at Dundalk in Ireland on Friday, March 16, 2012. A cash prize of €5,520 has been set for the race winner.
The going will be standard in the 1 mile long race, which is scheduled to start at 7:00 GMT, and 10 runners will be combating against each other. The names of these participants are: Aragorn Icon, Kalacan, Miss Mediator, Giving Orders, Lord Kenmare, Solid
Air, Beart, Opening Nite, Quinmaster and Petit Roque.
Although Aragorn Icon does not have a good strike rate, he has managed to win the confidence of the bookmakers. However, the punters might not be encouraged to place much bets in favour of his victory.
The five-year-old gelding has taken part in 24 races until now, winning just a couple of them. This suggests that he might not manage to take the top spot today. However, he does have four runners up positions and also secured a third place once, which means
he has the ability to challenge his rivals for race wins.
One of the reasons why Aragorn Icon got the favour from bookmakers is that he is quite familiar with the conditions at Dundalk. He has been racing consistently at this venue, thus holds the edge over others.
Other than that, David Marnane’s trainee did a decent job in his most recent appearance, where he secured the second place, after a close fight against the race winner.
Today’s favourite horse will be partnered by D. H. Bergin, who is a promising jockey and will be looking to make a solid impression.
Another runner, who has been given equally good odds as Aragorn Icon, is Kalacan. He has also shown good form in recent times, thus the punters will be interested in risking some money on his victory.
The six-year-old gelding has got plenty of experience of the conditions at Dundalk and that might work in his favour. However, his overall record is not much impressive, as he has only won once out of 35 attempts.
Mrs Denise Foster’s trainee will be ridden by Megan Carberry, who is looking to earn a name in the sport.
Miss Mediator, trained by Thomas Carmody, will also be the one to watch out for whereas the rest of the participants do not seem to have any chances of winning.
