Aramis Ramirez helps Chicago Cubs defeat Colorado Rockies 7-3 – MLB Update
The Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies 7-3 on Monday, June 27 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.
The Rockies were able to score only sparingly against some tight pitching by the Cubs with Matt Garza leading the assault. The Rockies were not as efficient as the Cubs scored abundantly at will. Jhoulys Chacin failed miserably as the Rockies were unable
to halt the Cubs march.
Garza threw 110 pitches for the Cubs, managing 75 strikes and six strike-outs. He took his season tally to 88 and crossed the 650 career strike-outs during the process, standing at 654 now. Matt now has four wins for the season.
Matt was well supported by Sean Marshall and Carlos Marmol as the relief pitchers persisted with the pressure Garza had already inflicted.
It was one of the rare nights that Chacin would want to forget sooner than later. The Rockies’ starting pitcher threw aimlessly and was rewarded likewise with six runs coming off the five innings that he pitched. His strike-outs for the current season are
at 92 but this performance was no match to the statistics. He was awarded with his fifth loss for the season and with eight wins already, his win-loss record stands at 8-5.
After Chacin’s performance, there was not much left for the relief pitchers to do. They did well in containing the flow of runs, but the first six runs had flown in a bit too early.
The Rockies failed to carry on the good start they had made to the game with Carlos Gonzalez smashing his 11th home-run of the season at the top of the first innings. They added their next run in the sixth inning helped by Jonathan Herrera’s effort
before Gonzalez again assumed responsibility in the eighth to score his second home-run of the game and 12th of the season. This hit was massive and gave a hint of desperation by the Rockies’ slugger as he saw the rest of his team fail.
The Cubs had a feast in contrast to the Rockies. They scored at will and smashed the ball ruthlessly as they gathered four home-runs in their total of seven runs. Aramis Ramirez led their attack in hitting and scored two home-runs. He proved his career slugging
percentage of .496 with two massive hits, the first distancing 412-feet and the second, even further at 442-feet. Ramirez scored a total of three runs to complete the humiliation. He now has eight home-runs for the season.
Carlos Pena did not stay back either. He joined in Ramirez and showed his hitting skills to the capacity crowd at the Wrigley field. He entertained the crowd with his two gigantic home-runs. His first hit managed to cover 417-feet whereas his second went
385-feet. Pena also completed a total of three-runs in the game.
This performance by the young lions was outstanding. Having a season record of 32-46, this performance was least expected. They now have a bright chance to build up on this performance and try reaching the .500 barrier.
The Rockies were shaken by the astounding play of the Cubs. They have the entire arsenal to stage a comeback in the season.
