Aramis Ramirez’s two-run homer gives Chicago Cubs 3-2 win over Pittsburgh Pirates – MLB Update
Chicago Cubs shattered the hopes of the Pittsburgh Pirates to sweep the three-game series and win the third game 3-2 at Wrigley Field, Chicago on Sunday, 29 May.
The game was played in unpredictable weather and saw the Chicago Cubs’ Aramis Ramirez hitting a homer to not only level the score but also embolden the Cubs’ position in the game.
Ramirez’s runs came at a time when the Pirates had consolidated their position very early when Lyle Overbay scored a two-run homer to give an early 2-0 lead to the Pirates. However, Chicago had come into this game with a different posture, as they fought
to end the winning streak of the Pirates.
It was Ramirez who made it possible with his tremendous inning. "I have a long way to go," Ramirez said. "Hopefully, I keep driving the ball." The team manager, Mike Quada was pleased with Ramirez’s feat and said, “He put a great swing on that ball. Those
home runs are going to come for him.”
After winning Friday’s game on May 27 by 4-2 and Saturday’s by 10-0, the Pirates started Sunday’s game with renewed confidence. Overbay doubled to deep right, enabling Andrew McCutchen to earn an amazing two-run homer. It was Ryan Dempster who seemed to
have a weak start for the Cubs, but he had to do something different in the game.
The first scoreless innings for the Cubs was not much of a disappointment or frustration, as they came down hard in the second inning with Ramirez’s brilliant two-run homer. He managed to homer to left-field and level the score in the second inning on a
tremendous fastball off Jeff Karstens.
With the first inning runs that Dempster allowed, he was then unyielding and managed to contain the Pirates’ hitters while Chicago monopolised the game in their own way. Starlin Castro hit a sacrifice fly to right, to score a tie-breaker and give a decent
3-2 lead to the Cubs.
Dempster then went ahead aggressively to keep the lead intact. The latter half of game was dominated by the pitchers of both the teams, as the game was clearly going the Cubs’ way.
Sean Marshall pitched the eighth inning for Chicago and Carlos Marmol the ninth, both of which were amazing shut-outs, to give the Cubs an eagerly awaited 3-2 victory against Pittsburgh.
