Aravane Rezai achieves untarnished victory over Kamilla Farhad in 1st round – Baku cup 2011
Kicking off on the 19th of July 2011 was the first round of Baku Cup 2011 between the French, Aravane Rezai and the home girl , Kamilla Farhad at the Baku Tennis Academy, Baku, Azerbaijan. Aravane had a runoff the mill
victory against her opponent winning 6-0, 6-2.
The court was set; meeting for the first time both the players geared up to contest each other. Serving first was Farhad who put on a poor first performance and won only six out of sixteen points along with a relatively weaker
return serve and was not able to avail to her opportunity the only two break points that were struck by Rezai and instead struck 3 break points.
Although both players struck only one double fault, Rezai had smashed a walloping six aces and managed to win three out of four break point opportunities that came her way. Along with an excellent serve and return game, she also
had a strong defense standing like a brick of wall at the back of the court she back lashed all that came her way and hence won the set with flawless victory 1-0.
Gaining an upper hand on her opponent she wasn’t to let tiredness come over her instead she stood her ground firmly and won sixty percent of her break points advantage. Even though she (Rezai) wasn’t able to save the only break
point that she gave on her serve, she had excellent service and won seventy percent of her total serve points along with a great return she put her opponent to shame. Farhad on the contrary was as slow as a slug and even though she lost the first set, the
crowd cheered her on to see her victory in the second set but alas! It was left only to imagination. The second set saw Farhad strike two double faults which was another disappointment hitting the net, was unable to save her break points, and had a poor return
game along with a mediocre serve; she lost the set 6-2.
Across the board, Rezai not only smashed eight aces but had only two double fault and twice as many total match points as her opponents. Her consistency in her service and return game along with her defense won her an easy match,
leading the score board 2-0.
Even though the 15-year-old, Kamilla Farhad tried her best she was ousted by her 24-year-old competition Aravane Rezai. The French will now face either of the two (Elena Vesnina or Yana Buchina) Russian players in the second round
of the Baku Cup 2011.
