Sri Lanka’s former captain, Aravinda de Silva, is extremely impressed by Ajantha Mendis’ comeback in international cricket after a lay off and believes that the mystery spinner can create trouble for any batting line-up, apart from India.
The 27-year-old cricketer from Moratuwa burst into the scene of international cricket in 2008, making a huge impression in all three formats because of his variations. Mendis introduced the carom ball in the game, which was later picked up by Ravichandran
Ashwin.
However, the mystery spinner has had injury issues throughout his career and has not played too many series. Mendis returned to the national team during the on-going http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045
at Hambantota.
The legendary middle-order batsman is delighted to see the off-spinner back in Lankan colours and predicted that Mendis is going to trouble most teams in the event and may play a key role in the country’s success in the mega event.
The former skipper referred to his performance in the Super 8 encounter against West Indies, where the talented cricketer picked up two wickets after giving away merely 12 runs in his four overs.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajantha-c42419 is fresh in his mind after his comeback and that is the reason for his success. If one analyses Ajantha's international track record, only the Indians have been able to read him well. Any batsman who plays Ajantha for the first time will find him
difficult to negotiate," said De Silva. "That's why http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, who have not played against him struggled."
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 have already qualified for the semi-final, where they will take on the second qualifying team from Group 2.
While talking about http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 bowling, although the destructive opening batsman, in the former Lankan cricketer’s opinion, is more than handy with the ball.
"The advantage to have a bowler like Sehwag is that he does not think like a part-timer. He is someone who thinks like a specialist off-spinner which is very important," he added.
