http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s bowling attack – Cricket News Update
Sri Lanka’s former captain and great middle-order batsman, Aravinda de Silva, is not impressed by India’s bowling attack in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 from the playing-11 against Australia was a huge mistake.
The Men in Blue, in the presence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, possess one of the world’s strongest batting line-ups.
Their bowling however, has been below-par over the last couple of years, not making an impression in any of the three formats. Apart from a couple of exceptions, India have never produced great fast bowlers but the performance of their spinners has also
not been quite convincing in the recent past, especially away from home.
In their first Super 8 match against Australia at Colombo, the Men in Blue posted 140 runs on the board, which were chased down by the Aussies without trouble. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301 exposed the Indian bowling attack, scoring 133 runs for the first-wicket
partnership.
Dhoni’s men must enhance their game with the ball, in De Silva’s opinion, if they are to give a tough time to the teams having strong batting line-ups.
"Whatever I have seen so far in this tournament, the Indian bowling attack seems to be weak. And when I am saying weak, it means pretty weak," he said.
The Indian bowlers however, did a good job against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 last night, restricting the Men in Green to just 128.
The former Test captain thinks that India have to come up with different plans in the field, if they are to challenge the higher ranked teams consistently.
"I have not seen the Indian spinners try out different things against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. I felt that they were pretty flat and against sides which have good players of spin, this will be a problem," said the former middle-order batsman.
De Silva is shocked to see question marks over Sehwag’s place in the team and said that the opening batsman is one of the world’s finest players and deserves to be in the side.
He added, "Let me tell you that it’s not an ideal situation to be in where you drop a player of Sehwag’s calibre."
