Aravinda de Silva urges Sri Lankan team to take inspiration from Australia
Former cricketer, Aravinda de Silva, urged Sri Lankan cricketers to learn from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and continue to struggle till the last ball to win matches against all odds.
De Silva along with Vice-captain, Mahela Jayawardene, and other selectors resigned from their posts. De Silva said that players have got emotional after their loss to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the final of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011 at Wankhede
Stadium.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the final decided to bat first after winning toss and set a reasonable target of 275 runs in 50 overs. Although, the target was not that easy to achieve, India managed to win the mega event as they displayed perfection in all areas, including
batting, bowling as well as fielding.
Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820 played a match winning unbeaten innings of 91 runs off 79 balls and led his team to their second World Cup.
"Maybe they were thinking about lost opportunities and became emotional", de Silva said. "This is the difference between an Australian side and ours. They (Australia) don't give up the match until the last ball is bowled”.
Before this, Kumar Sangakkara had resigned as One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 captain saying that other cricketers who are at the peak of their career should also be given opportunity to lead the team.
De Silva, who has played 296 ODIs in his cricketing career, said that Sri Lankan is far more talented than Australia but they lack the spirit and character, which is very necessary.
Sri Lankan earlier, has reached the final of the World Cup three times, but only one effort resulted in a win. They had also reached the final of the Twenty20 World Cup final in 2009 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 but failed to clinch the title.
