After dropping 6 points in 5 matches, Arbeloa believes Madrid should already start worrying about the Madrid derby, which might end up being the title decider.
Real Madrid have enjoyed a tremendous season in La Liga; however, they have seen a dip-in-form in the past few weeks.
Los Blancos commanded a 10-point lead over Barcelona about a month ago but could not hold to it as the season progressed towards its climax.
Jose Mourinho’s men first drew the game against Malaga. The two points dropped brought their lead down to 8 points. Later, the league leaders failed to perform against the relegation-threatened Villarreal and managed to draw another game. With another
stalemate, the Whites dropped their lead to 6 points.
Last weekend, Real Madrid faced Valencia at the Santiago Bernabeu. Madrid were expected to win the game, but Valencia managed to put a great show and drew the fixture in the Spanish capital. With another draw on the trot, Madrid are now only 4 points
above the current Spanish champions, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.
Since the lead is now in touching distance of La Blaugrana, Arbeloa believes that the Madrid derby during the midweek might turn out to be the title deciding match this season.
With El Clasico still left to be played, the Madrid derby is going to be a vital game before Los Blancos face La Blaugrana later in the competition.
Arbeloa urged his teammates to forget about the draw against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863, and concentrate on the next fixture which holds a lot of importance for the league leaders.
While speaking to the press about the derby, Arbeloa said:
“We always think we’re going to win our games, but there is a lot at stake for all teams right now and Valencia gave a good performance.”
“We’re aware of how many games we have to play in the season. We would have settled for having a four-point lead right now at the start of the campaign.
“We have to do our best to win every match, starting with the ones against Atletico Madrid and Sporting.
“We have to win on Wednesday, but Atletico are a strong side that’s changed a lot with (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058) Simeone.”
Real Madrid take on the challenge of Atletico Madrid on Wednesday and are expected to play against Barcelona on the 21st of April, 2012.
