Real Madrid managed to make an exceptional comeback in the second half of the UEFA Champions League group stage fixture against Manchester City and Arbeloa took out time to hail the fighting spirit in his team.
The Spanish full-back was playing in the Real Madrid first-team as they took on the challenge of the Premier League champions, Manchester City, on Tuesday.
With the match taking place at the Santiago Bernabeu, many were saying that it would be an easy fixture for the Spanish champions.
However, with a poor run of form in the Spanish La Liga, not all the fans were very optimistic about the fixture against one of the best sides in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.
As the match kicked off, both the sides were trying to find the back of the net; however, both the teams used different strategies.
While Jose Mourinho’s men tried their usual pressing football and dominated in terms of possession and shots on target, Manchester City were totally the opposite.
The Italian coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 asked his players to settle for a counter-attacking strategy and it worked out perfectly as Edin Dzeko scored the opening goal of the game in the second half of the game.
However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcelo-c23554 was able to make the best out of the ball which he received right outside the penalty area and the Brazilian full-back scored a goal in order to keep his team in the game.
Later, it was Kolarov who scored from a free-kick and many thought all hope was gone for the Spanish capital-based outfit.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350 was able to step up for Madrid soon after the goal scored by Kolarov, as a pass from Di Maria found him at the edge of the box and the Frenchman easily found the back of the net.
Soon, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ronaldo-c31734 scored the winning goal and Madrid were able to complete a remarkable comeback in the fixture.
While speaking about Madrid’s fighting spirit, their full-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Álvaro-Arbeloa-c5282, said:
“It was very important for the manner in which we did it and the rivals we were facing. The crowd at the Bernabeu helped us a lot because their second goal was a blow.”
“City are great team but I think we are better. They scored two but we had control of the game at all times.”
After the win against Manchester City, Madrid are currently at the top of their UEFA Champions League group.
