Arbitration circus entangles Texas Rangers and Vladimir Guerrero
The offseason is waiting to move onto another phase and while many Major League Baseball teams are looking to add on fire power for the coming season, things are looking to get serious in the Rangers Ballpark.
It wasn’t long ago when the Texas Ranger rewrote history by claiming the American League Championship title for the first time.
They made their first World Series last season and while they did it with the strength in the squad, many of those important assets are waiting to be appraised, once the arbitration period looms over. The time to make important decisions has come to fold
and if the American League team doesn’t manage the situation well, they may not make it to the post season, next year.
Cliff Lee is waiting out in Arkansas while the Rangers are fighting to keep their ace in the pitching rotation at bay. Lee turned to free agency recently and it seems the New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals are hot on his tail.
The Texans may not be out of trouble yet but given their current situation, they will probably look for a way to keep the team tight and exclusive of new members.
Victor Martinez is one man in high demand and while Bengie Molina might be opted for the catcher’s role, the Rangers will look to bring the Boston Red Sox man over to the franchise.
However, one man who is yet to make a signal for a move elsewhere is Vladimir Guerrero. The 36 year old was denied a multiyear deal by the mighty Texans and now he’s yet to make a move in the free agency.
Guerrero seems content with the Rangers and he came out to make a statement on his position, back in the Dominican Republic. He was quoted by a newspaper source as saying, "I want a two- or three-year contract. But I'm not going to say the amount of money
I want; just that I want a contract in line with the type of season I had".
It seems the Rangers will need to make headway fast if they want to see some good results soon. The veteran hitter will likely be offered arbitration and if he does get the offer, the Texans might be looking at a position in which he’ll deny it and give
the franchise two draft picks for next season.
