Former North Adelaide & 1971 premiership player Arch Wilkey died on Saturday from an inoperable brain tumour.

I had the pleasure of meeting Arch a couple of years back while he was staying in the same hospital ward as my father and he used to tag along with us for a smoke whenever i took my father outside.

While being awestruck from meeting one of my childhood heroes I can honestly say what a genuinely nice and happy man he was and am sorry for the great pain and suffering he reportedly suffered as the tumour took hold

He didn't want to die & as far as i'm concerned he should be mourned far more than some dopehead with a death wish

Does anyone agree?

  1. Arch who?

    Never heard of him

  2. I agree with all you say except the last bit.  He should be mourned.  My uncle was one of Victoria's most successful chicken farmers and died of the same at 42.  It was terribly sad.

You said you smoked (as I do).  I try to fix that but it's hard, very hard.  Drugs aren't THAT much different.

And sadly depression is something we have been trained to refute.  I nearly lost my daughter last year through this - she became someone I couldn't recognise, but you know what ... she was still as beautiful as the day I first held her.  I just couldn't reach her anymore.  She's recovered now and that wasn't achieved through denial or punishment.

  3. I'm finding it hard to sympathise with you when ignorant comments like "some dopehead with a death wish"...are used.

Come on dude, dont be disrespectful to a footy legend then expect us to care if you are mourning the death of Arch Wilkey.

  4. Sorry for the loss.. xo

  5. Actually no, I don't agree with you.'

Chris Mainwearing wasn't some dopehead, he had very real problems.

    Sorry to hear about Arch.

Barry Robran was one of our favourite players back then.

I feel quite sad for Arch and his family.

I don't agree that any one person should be mourned any more than another, Chris Mainwearings children and wife would probably disagree with you too!
