Arch rivals lament the deficiency of Rafael Nadal at US Open – Tennis News
World number three, Rafael Nadal, is not going to take part in the year’s final Grand Slam Championship, the US Open, in New York. He is still suffering from a chronic knee injury and it seems like the problem is never ending because
the delay has been longer than expected. He hasn’t crashed at the courts ever since his second round exit at the Wimbledon Championships in June.
However, the decision was on the cards. A player who missed the opportunity to be a flag bearer for the nation and the defending champion of gold medal in the event that is contested on four-yearly basis is definitely struggling
miserably from the injury. He is definitely in pain and not finding a way out to be match fit.
The despair was definitely in the statement put forth by the Spanish hero on his official facebook page that stated, “I am very sad to announce that I am still not ready to play and have to withdraw from this year's US Open in
NYC.”
However, other players especially the arch rivals of Nadal were also saddened by the fact that the true hero of tennis was not participating in one of the biggest tournament.
The Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, stated “It's not a surprise because I wrote (to) him and he told me it wasn't looking good at all. But obviously when it's official, it's disappointing for tennis.”
World number two, Novak Djokovic, said “I'm sure that if he was able to perform in the US Open, he would come. So I wish him a quick recovery."
Successor of Nadal, the gold medallist from Great Britain Andy Murray commented, “He's had trouble with his knees in the past. So I hope he can rest and gets them fixed so he can get back to playing his best tennis."
It is very hurtful to someone like the Spanish superhero to miss such a prestigious event. He has given a lot to the world of tennis and everyone wishes him the best of luck for the recovery so that they can see the King of Clay
back in action soon.
