  1. The salary of an archaeologist in the United States is directly related to your educational level, and level of experience.

With a Bachelor's Degree (B. A) in Anthropology or Archaeology, one can make between $24,000 and $28,000 per year.

If one has a Master's Degree in Archaeology (M. A.), the salary range is higher, from $30,000 to $40,000.

If one has a ph. D in Archaeology, the salary range can go from $45,000 to over $100,000.  Again, the high range is for someone who is experienced and recognized in the field.

ph. D. degree Archaeologists can make good salary in tenured positions at a university, work for the government (National Parks Service, Department of the Interior, or even the Army Corps of Engineers).

Archaeological field technicians have to work extremely hard, and rove around the country living in hotels as a kind of strange group of migrant workers.  That is the entry level job, if you have a bachelor's degree and have had archaeological field school, and some other academic courses in archaeology.

Good luck!  I hope you can dig it!

  2. Expect to earn in the 20k range. Most shovelbums are hourly... sometimes per diem and hotels are paid for. This is a job for love, not money.

  3. most archaeologist jobs are not salaried positions.  as a shovel bum, or field tech, you usually make $12-20/hour, usually with per diem of 20 - 50/day.

better not take out any big school loans to pay for an archaeology degree, it'll be hard to pay back....
