I need a archaeology site that is interesting, has a lot of information on it, and, if possible, have the main archaeologist still alive and able to answer questions. Thank you in advance for your help.

  1. If you are interested in locations in the United States, check out Hopewell Culture National Historic Park and the associated sites ( http://www.nps.gov/HOCU ).  The associated sites were all built by loosely related groups of people (the "Hopwell Culture" - more of a material culture than an actual homogenous group) and were the inspiration for the "Moundbuilder Myth" that pervaded archaeology when it was first getting going in North America.

Some of the main archaeologists are dead due to the length of time that these sites have been studied (Moorehead being one of them), but their work is being continued by researchers who are famous in the field, including:

Dr. N'oami Greber, archaeologist at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History

Dr. Mark Lynott, archaeologist and director of the Midwest Archaeological Center

Dr. Jennifer Pedersen, park archaeologist at Hopewell Culture

I have met all three of them, and each is happy to speak with students and other researchers about their work.

As far as a specific site goes, the Hopewell Mound Group would be a good place to study.  It has a lot of information from excavations and studies dating back into the 19th century, and all three of the above archaeologists have been involved with the current research.  Any one of them would be able to point you in the right direction.

  2. Yes. Go to channel4.com's timeteam site.

This excellent British archaeological site should meet all your requirements.
