  1. Isn't the Archaic Era any time before about 1980? :P

  2. Greece.

  3. This is generally a term referring to an "era" preceding any "classical" era (eras with bursts of learning, the arts, etc.).  In ancient Greek history it's the period used especially in Greek art (important to identify phases in art change and cultural change) after the Dark Ages in Greece (which was the vacuum left by the fall of the Mycanaean empire) lasting until around 750 BC.  The Archaic era in ancient Greece lasted until the beginnings of the Classical era, roughly 480 BC, after the Persian wars and domination of the polis Athens.  It's important to note that eras don't abruptly begin, and are merely inventions of modern-day scholars for ease of reference.  Archaic eras are cultural specific, so don't expect to find any similarities between those of Greece and early Americas.  To do so would take a cultural evolutionist point of view, which is a big no-no, meaning that cultures "evolve" to some supposed high-point.  To reiterate, it's merely just a term employed to refer to an age before another one of grandeur.
