how did archemedis find out the volume of the crown

  1. The crown was of irregular shape and it´s volume could not be determined directly so Archimedes immersed it in water and measured the volume of water displaced. Then by knowing the specific weight per volume of gold he was able to determine if the crown weighed the correct weight.

  4. Specific Gravity of gold - displacement of water.  He was taking a bath and realised that his body weight displaced water.  Knowing the specific gravity of gold he knew how much water should be displaced by gold of the crown's weight.
