Archie Massey wins International 14 World Championships – Sailing news
Great Britain’s Archie Massey finally made it to the top of the standings after an impressive run at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. With the help of an outstanding performance, the Briton clinched his third International 14 World Championship
title with 14 points after seven races.
The final day of the regatta was welcomed by ideal wind conditions, which was really a plus point for sailors to have a great race ahead. The wind gusted around 13 knots over the racing area at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.
Two races were commenced on the final day. The first race began at an eight knots wind speed in which, Ben McCrane and Roger Gilbert sailed right to cover both Massey and Wilsdon. However, Glen Truswell took advantage and managed to finish on top in Race
1.
The breeze picked up to 13 knots at the start of the second race, as Gilbert and McCrane shot out first to take an early lead in the final race followed by Massey and Wilsdon. Unfortunately, Gilbert and McCrane got black-flagged and lost the race, as they
crossed the finish line with no sound signal. As a result of their disqualification, Massey finally took the final race to claim the title.
