Architectural Confluence?? Huh?

Question

Does anybody know why might confluence of architectural/cultural design elements interest a professional designer?

-- I cannot figure out.. it's confusing me....lol... thanks

Confluence means they come together.  It would mean that they both looked similar.  A designer needs to know this to design a space that is similar in style to the architectural styling of a building.
