Archos 5 vs. Archos 605?

I've been considering the 605 for a couple weeks now and low and behold the new generation comes out. Is the Gen 6 really that much better than the 605? It seems like the Gen 6 is better video quality and a larger screen. Is it worth it?

I am in the same position as you here but I think that I am going to go for the new archos. It's better than the 605 in just about every aspect and is supposedly much faster with the new processor they added. The only downside I can see from buying the archos 5 is that the battery life shorter because of the larger screen. However, my opinion as of now is only based on the archos website since I can't seem to find any hand's on reviews of it yet (except one at generationmp3.com which is written in french) because it isn't available until september 8th. I am going to wait until the archos 5 comes out so that I can read some hand's on review before I make my purchase but as far as details on paper, the new archos seems to be a better choice and will not be much more expensive then the 605 unless the 605 drops it's price dramatically when the archos 5 comes out.

I would definitely go for the new Archos 5 (and in fact, I am).

It does everything that the 605 does, but has a bigger and nicer screen, and it's new.  Archos has stopped providing many online updates to the 605, so it looks like they're about to ditch the old generation pretty soon.  Also, the GPS is a possible add-on for the 605 and the 5.  However, the 605 isn't powerful enough to play music while "GPS-ing" which ultimately defeats the purpose.  The 5 is only 350 for 60 gb, which isn't really that much more than the 605, it might actually be cheaper.  

Definitely go for the 5.

It's not really Gen 6; it's a new product line. They're 'Internet Media tablets', but I think there's still a large use for the 605. The 5 is best if you have 3G service or live in a city where there are a lot of wifi hotspots. The 5 is sleek and pretty s**y compared to the 605. I own the 605, and I must say it's awesome. It's kinda big so it won't fit in your pocket nicely, but the video resolution is amazing and I like the buttons. The 5 is a lot pricier and the 605 is just starting to come down in price.
