Arctic ready to handle the heavy ground in the Belgrave Stakes at Fairyhouse
With eight runners competing for €26,000 in the Belgrave Stakes at Fairyhouse on 15th July, 2012, the anticipation is on the rise.
The heavy surface of the track might challenge some of the runners but, chances are that, Arctic and, After, will be able to tackle it well.
Running over a distance of six furlongs, Arctic will aim for the second victory of this season in this race. Trained by Tracey Collins, the five-year-old runner really toned up this season and, secured placed finishes in all his starts.
At Navan on 15th June, 2012, the son of Shamardal, foaled by mare Shawanni, romped to victory in the Follow Navan On Facebook Handicap which covered a distance of six furlongs.
With rider Michael Hussey on his back, he won by 2 ½ lengths before the Patrick Martin trained, Footprint.
The grey gelding has proved that he can perform on tricky surfaces and, his victory proves that he will be able to do it again.
The R.A. Pegum owned runner finished as a runner-up to, An Saighdiur, by 1 ½ lengths in the Paddy Power Sprint (Premier Handicap) at Curragh on 30th June, 2012, which covered 6 ½ furlongs and, the surface of the track was good
to soft.
Maintaining consistency on this kind of surface is difficult but, the fact is that the gelding has done it before.
Mounted by jockey Michael Hussey, the gelding will enter from post number 7, with the odds of 7-2.
After, trained by Aidan O’Brien for owners Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, could be a potential threat to Arctic, since he has been demonstrating the same consistency.
The daughter of Danehill Dancer, foaled by mare Noahs Ark, finished third in the Group 3 Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Brownstown Stakes, where she lost the victory by 1 ½ lengths to, Marvada, over the seven
furlongs on a surface labelled heavy at Naas on 11th July, 2012.
With all the elements of winning, Arctic has already set his sights on the prize and will attempt to take the money home. Combine a little luck with his effort and he will be good to go.
