Arda Gurdal and Lisa Zaiser outshine in swimming events: Day two – 2011 Austrian SC Nationals
Arda Gurdal of Turkey and Lisa Zaiser of Austria outperformed their competitors and captured gold medals of Men's 100m freestyle and Women's 200m Individual Medley (IM), respectively on day two of the 2011 Austrian Short Course Nationals in Vienna New Town,
on Saturday, November 26.
The session included playoffs of 100m freestyle, 200m IM, and 100m back-stroke in Men's and Women's category.
The 21-year-old Gurdal occupied gold medal of the Men's 100m freestyle by posting a time of 49.27 seconds. With his gold winning efforts, he remained 0.83 seconds ahead of David Brandl of Austria, who reached the podium for second spot with a timing of 50.10
seconds.
The 24-year-old Brandl, remained 0.17 seconds faster from Dietmar Stockinger of Austria, who earned bronze medal of the event with the timing of 50.27 seconds.
Next was the 200m IM, where 17-year-old Zaiser claimed the crown by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 11.42 seconds. She was followed by Birgit Koschischek of Austria, who was 1.27 seconds away from the gold medallist and snatched silver medal of the
event with a timing of 2 minutes and 12.69 seconds.
The third spot of the race was claimed by Cassandra Gimeno Grauwinkel, who reached the finishing end with a timing of 2 minutes and 15.84 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in Men's category where Markus Rogan of Austria stunned the arena by clocking a time of 1 minute and 55.07 seconds for gold medal. The 29-year-old Rogan was trailed by his team-mate Dinko Jukic, who completed his swim in a time
of 1 minute and 57.00 seconds for silver medal.
Jukic remained 2.36 seconds ahead of Dominik Dur of Austria, who reported a time of 1 minute and 59.36 seconds.
In the meantime, Alzbeta Rehorkova of Czech obtained gold medal of Women's 100m back-stroke by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.30 seconds. The 19-year-old Rehorkova remained just 0.05 seconds ahead of Uschi Halbreiner of Austria, who earned silver medal
of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 01.35 seconds.
The third spot of the race was secured by Margherita Panziera of Italy, who clocked an effort of 1 minute and 01.62 seconds.
The last event of the session was Men's 100m back-stroke, where Randall Dal of USA reached the finishing wall with a fastest timing of 52.02 seconds for gold medal. He was trailed by Pavel Sankovich of Bulgaria, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver
medal with a timing of 53.35 seconds.
The 21-year-old Sankovich remained in a lead of 0.72 seconds over Iskender Bashlakov of Turkey, who completed his swim in a time of 54.07 seconds for bronze medal.
The session came to an end after the fascinating efforts of all podium finishers while the medals were awarded to winners after the completion of the championship.
