  1. Rilifan said it all. You may like or you may dislike the food, who knows?

I have had some great traditional, regional meals, made in farms, with their own products, and I can tell you it was just fantastic.

However, some people were very picky, not for the quality of the food, or its taste... just because they prefered aseptised food from Tesco or Asda.

Bare in mind, it is mainly a rural area, and food is great.

  2. Horrible food in France? not on your nelly.

  3. Horrible?

Well, you won't find mushy peas, toad in a hole, chip buttys, spotted d**k, or marmite so if that is your standard of good food you're out of luck.

Further, unlike the British, the French do not believe in cooking all food, whether meat or vegetables until they are a uniform grey.

Most alarmingly, they have sauces other than salad cream and HP that are actually made with the meal and not taken out of bottles.

  4. I have been there, it's gorgeous (really crowded with English, German and Dutch tourists in summer so it's a popular spot with nature lovers). I hope you will have the opportunity to swim in the Ardèche river or enjoy other water sports/activities.

I don't remember any specific food associated with that particular region (I know chestnuts are a specialty but it's not the season yet) but the food should be delicious there as anywhere in the south of France. Maybe the person who told you that is too young to have acquired any appreciation for good cuisine based on quality natural products/produce or maybe they weren't used to certain meats but that person was definitely wrong in labelling it as horrible, it is quite the opposite.

    Enjoy the Ardèche!
