  1. Yes they are, you can expect a little below the minimum wage or the minimum wage if the guy who hires you isn't a cheapskate!

    There are all kinds of unskilled jobs out there, working in a franchise like "Dairy Queen", or "KFC" or maybe an independent company in the neighbourhood.

    You would have to get out and look around. I'd try waitering, it's fun, has a lot of different people to meet and the tips could be a heck of a lot better than a minimum wage job. Waiter's and waitresses are paid below the minimum wage because of the tips garnered in the business.

  2. this is in response to the old dogs answer, legally in Canada you cannot pay anyone below minimum wage, it is the minimum.  A few years ago I know there was a training wage that applies to people that have never worked before, only good for 500 hours as an incentive for business owner to train people with no experience.

    To work in Canada you need a social insurance # and probably a work visa, get in touch with a government agency they will give you the advise to follow.
