Are 15 college credits enough for a freshman?

I was going to take 17 credits but I think that is a little over the top so I'm thinking about dropping choir. I'm living at home and commuting 20 miles everyday one way as well. Is 15 an okay load? What is the homework like? I start next week with orientation, I'm a little nervous because I don't know what to expect. Thanks =].

  1. 15 is great for a semester. 30 hours to become a sophomore so you're on track. Homework load depends on your classes and what school you are attending but for the most part college is a lot of work. You'll do fine in school. 3 years ago I was a freshman at Texas A&M which has over 30 thousand undergrad students so I was terrified when I got to my first class which was chemistry with over 500 students but it got really cool and everyone is relaxed. work hard and everything will fall into place

  2. 15 is normal for the average college student to take, shoot my first quarter i only took 12 credits; you'll be perfectly fine, its hard adjusting at first but eventually you'll get a system down.

    GOOD LUCK!

  3. expect to do 2 to 3 hours of homework for each credit hour of class. although it probably won't take 3 hours for each credit hour of class, this assumption will help keep you from overloading. remember, finals and midterms for your classes tend to be during the same week. if they're cumulative, you could be screwed at 15 credits. Start with 12 or 13 for your first semester, just until you get a feel for college.

  4. 15 is a good amount for your first semester or quarter. When I was on a semester system my first year, I started with 12 units, and a few weeks in I was beyond board. I wished I took more. So 15 sounds about right. On the quarter system, which is faster paced, starting out with 12 or 13 might be the way to go. There is a LOT of reading for homework in college. Reading and papers, not really to much else. just stay on top of it from DAY ONE and you will be fine. Fall behind though, and it's a nightmare and a couple painful all nighters to catch up. good luck and enjoy college!

  5. 15 is perfect for your first semester

  6. Yes 15 is fine. then another 15 the next and 15 the next. There enough units to become a sophomore standing
