This has been bugging me for the longest time.

okay so say you have triplets (two girls and one boy)

can you pair them off as twins too?

like say, just the two girls, are they twins, and are the boy and one girl twins? or can it just be classified as a triplet?

very confused!

so to some it up: if you have a 1 set of triplets, are two out of three twins?

  1. No, they are either all idintical or not

  2. No, because a twin means "one of TWO babies born at the same time to the same mom"...triplets aren't one out of two but of THREE...don't forget the third one =)

Edit: About the sac thing above, maybe, but I was answering for a normal pregnancy of one

  3. It can be any combination.

There can be three different eggs, so three completely different children.

There could be one set of identical twins, and one seperate child, i.e, originally two eggs, one splits to make twins.

Rarely, there are identical triplets, where a single egg splits twice to make three.

It's always classed as triplets though, identical or not.

  4. not by name! twins means two and triplets means three! however...there are three seperate options

1.if two eggs were released and one split resulting in triplets...then two are identical and the other is not obviously (still considered triplets..because they came from 1 pregnancy)!

2.three eggs were released resulting in fraternal (non-identical) triplets

3.1 egg split three times...resulting in identical triplets!!

    hope this helps!!!

  5. yes only if two are in one sack and the other one has its own

  6. They are all triplets.  However, it is possible that the two girls could be identical twins.  We would need a lot more details about the pregnancy to know that.  And without the details of the preg, you would need dna tests.

  7. The 3 of them would always be considered triplets.  The only way you could consider 2 of them to also be twins is if they are identical.  This would mean that 2 eggs were fertilized at ovulation, one developed as a single baby but the other egg split into 2 and the 2 girls would be identical twins as well as each would be considered a triplet.  This does not occur as frequently, though.  Most typically triplets occur because 3 eggs were fertilized.  In this case, there would be no twins.  It may be possible, in a set of triplets, for 2 out of the 3 to be twins, but not necessarily.
