I dont like regular bikes and I was wondering if it would look silly if i rode a 3 wheeled one? I love to ride bikes and i know its great exercise but i dont want to get teased. Please give me your real opinion.

  1. I concur with E.B. I'd rather see someone out riding, then at home doin' nothing.

One thing I would add too, is that the recumbent three wheel bikes such as Delta's (single wheel to the front) or Tadpoles (single wheel to the back) and even adult Tricycles are ideal with people with certain disabilities, they even make a tag along 'trike'--it's actually only two wheels--that can be attached like tag along.  I had an older couple that used one, she had issues with balance due to MS.

    Get out and ride!

  2. Now here is a nice looking three wheeler:

  3. Tadpole recumbent trikes (2 wheels front, 1 wheel rear) are cool. They can corner like slot cars, and being that close to the pavement makes them feel like piloting a go-kart. You can check out the recumbent trikes at recumbents.com, in their buyer's guide.

  4. well if i saw an adult riding a tricycle i would probably laugh try riding a normal bike

  5. a recumbrent would look cool but a regular trike would look kinda nerdy

  6. Some very tough and hairy cyclists race tricycles, not recumbants, they are much harder to race on, need a good deal of strength and a different technique of riding, all of the long and short distance records for tricycles are faster or further than any average cyclist will ever achieve. There are also tandem trikes "long-barrows", even harder.

Go for it, don't let what I have written above put you off, you, presumably, do not have racing in mind and a tricycle is probably easier and safer to ride than a bicycle, you certainly won't look silly, but even if you do get teased a little, the novelty for the teasers will soon wear off and you will be the one benefitting from the exercise so you'll have the last laugh !! Enjoy your tricycle !

  7. Perhaps you can refine your question...

Are you speaking of standard trikes?...as seen here:

Or are you referring to 3-wheel recumbent bicycles?...as seen here:

I don't think either are "nerdy."  People choose what suits their needs.  From an exercise standpoint, I'd go with the recumbent.  Not only are recumbents geared toward the 'serious' cyclist, they are efficient, and they put you in a position that allows you to use more muscle.  "Bent" riders frequently speak of the comments of curiosity they receive from others.

Regardless, don't worry about getting teased by people that don't even ride.  People that really enjoy cycling like seeing others on their bicycles, no matter what type.

    Go have fun!
