Animals are animals first.  Secondly, they are whatever species they are...dog, cat, horse, etc.  The biggest mistake a human can make is labelling an animal as a "person with fur and fangs."  This creates unrealistic expectations which will eventually disappoint the person and creates unhappy and frustrated animals.  

This is not to say that you cannot have a satisfying and fulfilling relationship with a pet, but care must be taken to ensure that whatever animal it is will be dealt with in the manner that is applicable for its species.  For example, cats are simple...they expect respect and calm co-existence.  Dogs on the other hand, require strong leadership and are much more complicated.

I consider my pets animals, but not really friends, I am more their mommy. What I love about them is they don't judge, and love unconditionally, unlike humans.

U offer friendship to a human and an animal too. Who do u think going to express acceptance in words to u?  Human or the animal ? Definitely its human not the animal. Animal can not express any thing as it does not understand what friendship is. It only expects love and care from u and in return he remains faithful to u that does not mean that it has become ur friend. Friendship is reciprocal which can only be found in human. Human friendship is beyond selfishness so obviously human r good friends.
