Are 'citronella oil' and 'lemon grass oil' one and the same?

(We are a voluntary social organisation trying to concoct a hebal remedy for the msquito menace (and resultant spread of 'chickun gunia') in the state of Kerala, India)

  2. 'Citronella oil' comes from Cymbopogon nardus, Ceylon type  ( and Cymbopogon winterianus Java type) The two have little difference in chemical composition.

    'Lemon grass oil' from Cymbopogon citratus ( West Indian lemon grass ).

    Cymbopogon flexuosus, East-Indian Lemon Grass,  Lemon-scented grass is used for cooking.

    The essentioal oil of all of them are said to have insect repellent properties.

    All these plants are species of the same genus.

  3. Citronella and lemon grass oil is one and the same.This grass derives name 'citronella' or 'lemon grass'  because of it's lemony smell.In some parts this grass is also called as 'Inchi grass'.
