Are 'snach and grabs' common in India?

I bought a new Canon Rebel Xti camera that I plan to bring to an India vacation. I do NOT want to get it stolen. I know that pickpocketing is common throughout India, but that is generally when the victim is oblivious to the crime. Do I have to be careful that someone doesn't grab my camera out of my hands and run away with it? Or are robbers generally not that bold in India. Thanks!!!

I'm going to the following areas: Delhi, Leh, Udaipur, Jaipur, Agra.

  1. "snatch and grab" is Not common, i'm positive about that.

But you can surely tempt someone to still your valuables if you keep it say on a table in a restaurent and  go somewhere for a minute :)

I would suggest buy a camera holder that you can strap on to ur waist or hang arond you neck , so that no one can easily snatch it.

  2. Nope, Not very common . But, there are such cases on Indian railways, those guys snatch gold chains and watches and jump from running train.

I would say , just be careful and never leave your attention from u r valuables .

  3. "Snatch and grab" depends on your vigilance while traveling. In India too, it is the same like any other Country. A visitor especially a foreigner is an easy target  for pick pockets any where in the world.. Better get your Camera insured  for theft. Also keep a copy of purchase Invoice with Camera details. I have traveled extensively and   I can assure you people in our Country (India) are good and helpful to others, more hospitable and kind than many other Countries.

    Wishing you very happy holidays.
