If I had to watch the play off for third or the final one more time I know which game I would prefer - Argentina France was great the first time that Argentina won but 10 times as good in the play off for third - much better game than the final.

Playing for the bronze or any international test match should never be considered a waste of time.

Absolutely, nobody ever wants to play for 3rd place in anything days after a crushing semi-final defeat, be it Rugby, football or tiddlywinks. I remember Bulgaria - who had looked brave and adventurous up until that point - were a broken disinterested team in the 3rd place match at the 1994 FIFA WC and were hammered 4-0 by Sweden. The losing semi-finalists should be awarded joint 3rd place and not put through what is effectively a public humiliation.
