Are 6 year olds embarrassed already?

My 6 year old daughter has a girl scout mother/daughter dance coming up - it's semi-formal. However, she doesn't want to go because I'll embarrass her (her words).

Dad went with her to father/daughter dance on Halloween, they both dressed up, however, most other dads did not and she "felt funny".

I know she will have a great time if I make her go, (all her friends are going) but I respect her feelings and wouldn't force her to do anything she doesn't want to.

Is it possible she is really embarrassed at this age? Or do you think this is carry-over from Halloween dance? Thank you.

My oldest daughter told me the notes I stick in her lunch at school embarrassed her, she was in 1st grade. It hurt my feelings but I stopped. She is now in 3rd and hugs me and everything in front of all her friends. It can be a phase or a child made one weird comment. It will be OK, give her time once she figures things out she wont feel embarrassed.

ok well embarrasment starts around the age of 2....... she wants to impress her friends. It is just like when my 13 year old niece Allysen says 'Mooooom! You can't drop me off cuz you dont have a hybrid!"

maybe you and her need to bond by practicing dancing at home sounds like she might be embarrassed that you and her cant dance but she does not want to say it , turn the music on  and you two be silly and have fun so she wont have to be shyat the real thing.

YES you can be embarassed at that age. MY parents always tell my that when I was 3, my dad had a red and yellow joker costume for halloween (I actually do remember this.) And it was fine when we were alone, but if we'd go in public  I'd tell him "NO! DADDY TAKE IT OFF!" I'd actually throw a tantrum if he left the house wearing the costume. It's probably a bit of both, though. A carry-over and embarassment sound like the same thing, though.
