  1. I would say that ADHD, aspergers and giftedness could be related because ADHD kids are usually smart kids, they just have trouble concentrating their energy on one thing.... kids with aspergers can also be very smart, but have social problems that interfere with them reaching their potential.....

  2. not really but like alcholism is just that you drink beer way to much and are addictide to it dyslexia means you had a very sad child hood allergies mean you sneeze or get conjested if you get something you are allergect to so basicly summing it up they are not they all come  from diffrent diseases that people have

  3. YES.  OF course they are related. Autoimmune disorders run together.  When you go to genetics counseling they ask you all of these things.  Neurological disorders are closely related.

    bipolar and autistic spectrum disorders-

    both have low serotonin levels

    dyslexia and autistic spectrum disorders-

both have abnormal frontal lobe connections of extra dendrites and axons

giftedness is a COMMON comorbidity of dyslexia, and aspergers

ADHD is frequently misdiagnosed in bipolar children

allergies, asthma, eczema, and alcoholism are all autoimmune disorders you can add to this list IBS, colitis, cancer, MS, etc.

My family and my husband's family have ALL these things going on, they are almost all of them exteme cases:

bipolar-my mother on disability, takes many meds including multiple antipschotics mellaril seroquel, risperdal, multiple anxiolytics klonopin and ativan, multiple mood stabilizers lamictal, SIL (sister in law) on disability, takes depokote, xanex, ativan, lamictal, risperdal, and zyprexa, MIL (mother in law), husband (not on meds)

    ADHD-my brother, husband's brother

dyslexia-self severe visuospatial 3rd grade reading level, sister

eczema-son uses high doses of steroids daily, niece

colitis-MIL, and BIL colon ruptured age 23

alcoholism-father recovered, has a CADC, FIL (father in law) has 3 dui's including injury

asthma-brother, self, son all shots, all nebulizer treatments

    giftedness-self IQ tested 147-163, father 158, brother 148, brother 142, husband 147, uncles 168,151

anaphylactic allergies-self, mother, sister, son, niece, all have epipens, all rushed to hospital

    seasonal allergies-everybody

    autistic spectrum disorders:

my father aspergers dx age 3 hyperlexia

my brother PDD.NOS dx age 10

my son PDD.NOS    dx age 25 months

my other son PDD.NOS/asperger's dx age 9 months

my niece PDD.NOS dx age 24 months

my SIL  LFA (low functioning autism) dx age 4, institutionalized age 4  currently age 35

As you can see these are all immediate family members.  I have swapped stories with many autistic families and they look similar for the most part.

  4. No. They are all different. Only a developmental specialist could really tell who's child has what and possibly why. Every time you have kids and you have a high risk of one of the above in the family, it'll still be a hit-n-miss as to if any child you have will get the same problem or not since I know that's what you're wondering/concerned about.

If you are concerned about yourself and fiance, wait till you're married, then go get tested by a genetic's doctor to find out what all you do have. That's how I found out I have DiGeorge Syndrome, among a wide range of other things that run in the family.

My first born died at 3 months old because she had the worst case of my syndrome. I have a mild case.

My 2nd born after a miscarrage is perfectly healthy and does not have the syndrome that has heart issues.

After yet another miscarrage, I had another child with this syndrome so she had to have closed heart surgery for a vascular ring defect that was supposed to go away after she was born and it didn't. She's fine now and 3 years old. My oldest is now 5.

It really isn't a bad idea to get checked by a genetic's doctor to know what you have before you start having kids. You would be more prepared that I was because I wish I knew ahead of time so I could make better decisions.

After the last child was born with DiGeorge Syndrome, I had my tubes tied to prevent anymore kids from suffering from DiGeorge. My family wanted me to keep having kids till I had boys but I told them to go f*** themselves because my health was more important. And the two girls I had that survived needs a mom too. :)

    Good luck!

  5. my husband & son are both severly dyslexic. So is his Aunt & Uncle from my husbands side too.

  6. ADHD,bipolar, dyslexia etc. are psychological disorders which include difficulty to interpret read and write(dyslexia,ADHD) and sudden chnge in moods(bipolar) whereas allergies are something that one's body does not accept.Asthma is a kind of respiratory problem. So you see there is no relation in between all these.

  7. They are not related to the alcoholism, it's just a coincidence that she was drinking.  Some of these traits seem to run in families, they would probably have manifested regardless of whether or not someone drank during pregnancy.

  8. Yes, a lot of those disorders are related. I remember seeing a chart once that showed how they are all connected.

  9. Well no.   they are not technically related at all. Well, at least not the alchoholism, allergies, asthma and eczema. not the bi-polar either.

But ADHD and dyslexia very well could go hand and hand. it is  not at all uncommon for students with ADD or ADHD to also have other learning disabilities, including dyslexia. I myself had ADD and discalcliua, a form of dyslexia that affects my ability to process numbers (instead of words).

Aspergers syndrome is a very serious disability and almost always is on it's own, it has no relation to other disabilities, but i will say that very often people that have that also have other disabilities.
