Question:

Are AP classes harder first term or second term?

I'm going to be a sophomore this fall. The APs I'll be taking are: AP European History, AP Biology, and AP Calculus A-B. At my school, most APs last for one year (two terms). Some only last for half a year (first term). Those three AP classes all happen to last one year.

(I'm not exactly clear on this, but at other schools, people take AP classes for two years? If so, then my question applies to that too. Would AP classes be harder the first year or the second year?)

So are AP classes generally harder first term or second term?

  1. I've never heard of having to take a single AP class for two years, so I don't know anything about that.  But AP classes are generally...well, there's no general statement about them.  Often, the first semester is easier because the beginning material is easier than the more challenging material in the second semester.  Then again, the first semester is often used to build foundations, and then the second semester just builds on those foundations, so there's not too many new things to learn, which makes the second semester easier.  There's a trade-off, so there's no easy answer to this question.

  2. I think the class itself is harder first term because you need to get used to the workload and the teacher. And also in the second term you spend half the time reviewing for the AP test and you just chill for a month after the test.

  3. i think they always start off easier
