Hey everybody!

Lately I've been getting into the tactical sort of weapons, ones that I might shoot for fun. I stumbled on the M1A and the AR-15, and quickly decided that id rather have an AR-15. I've been looking at DPMS Panther Arms, which are cheap (for AR-15's and are relatively nice looking in quality).

This is where my question[s] pop up, should I get one? Are they easy to maintain? How would I obtain one in Canada? And is DPMS a good brand to look at (if im going to buy one, im going to buy something that doesn't put me on the streets)? Last, what caliber should I get it in?

Thanks.

  1. As to how you can purchase one in Canada is beyond me. I'm in the USA..... The DPMS is a fine rifle maker. Rock River Arms is also an excellent choice.... If you are not going to be hunting with it then consider one chambered in .223... The .223 is the most common ammunition used in these AR15 type rifles.... .223 is inexpensive also. Purchased in bulk or surplus it can be down right cheap!!!... The other chamber offerings DPMS has are expensive!  $20 a box on up so .223 is an excellent choice....

  2. Should I get one?  Yes you should.

Are they easy to maintain? Yes, with a little training.

How would I obtain one in Canada? I haven't the foggiest.

And is DPMS a good brand to look at? They are fine.

Last, what caliber should I get it in? 223 Remington is a good place to start. Then trade up or get conversion upper assemblies.

  3. AR-15s and all variants are restricted firearms like handguns in Canada.  You need your restricted and non-restricted PAL.  You can only shoot them at a approved range and you need to have your Authorization To Transport(ATT) papers to take them out of the house.  I am not really familiar with them so I can't tell you much about the guns themselves.

If you wanted something similar that you can shoot out in the bush you can get an AR 180b with a long barrel, they are non-restricted.

There is a "Black and Green Rifle" board on there.  They will know all about specifics and who carries what.

  4. Best gun ever made.

  5. Nick - The AR 15 would be the 2nd best. The AK takes the top spot in all categories except accuracy.

  6. AR15's are great fun. They are easy to maintain and clean. More parts than an AK but still easy to clean for sure.

I like the AR because you can do almost anything to it.

    Good luck

  7. Yea they are good if you keep them really clean and oled i have a dpms and so far it has been a great gun, also high standard makes great AR-15's

  8. I dont think you can own one in canada and DPMS Panther makes some great AR15s and are very easy to maintain. there should be tons of videos online on how to clean it and field strip it. they are among the cheaper AR15s but r just as reliable.

  9. Best get one before november. And There are easy to clean but it does take a while to figure out, or at least for me it did to take out and dismantle the bolt. Esy to maintain but the tolerances are tight so It might jam from time to time if using cheap ammo. Get it chambered in 5.56 if you can.
