You could use the Jet fuel to get up into the air, and once you are in the air, the electric kicks in to cruise. Considering the price of fuel these days... Airline companies are really falling apart...

  1. Simply not applicable. The technology is not adaptable. The power requirements for high speed flight would overwhelm the electric system. Having powerful enough electric motors, batteries and the jet engines on a 747 sized aircraft would likely allow for about ten passengers. Not exactly feasible.

  2. No.  Hybrid power systems like those used in automobiles are not practical for use in airplanes.

    Sorry.

  3. No but there is a project to make 'the next condorde'

It is basically a plane thats runs on Liquid Hydrogen, and will fly at 'hypersonic' speeds, 'up to Mach 8'....

    Chech it out at

  4. sir richard branson of virgin airlines is developing jet engines that run partially on coconut oil...

  5. well i'd say no considering some jets can weigh upto 300,000 kg and fly at over 900km/h

its different for cars because the batteries are charged when you use the brakes. airplanes dont use brakes in mid air and i doubt there is any reliable way to power the batteries in mid air. and even if there was they would probably only power the plane for like 2 seconds.

  6. And where do you suppose this electricity would come from?  Batteries to provide enough thrust to keep a jetliner in the air would weigh more than the airplane does!
